What Cowboys are getting: A guy who could play either strong-side linebacker or weak-side linebacker in this system. He was a productive tackler at Texas Tech and grew as a player his senior year. The speed is not elite for the position but is solid enough to contribute.
Postins’ Take: Of all of the players the Cowboys took Smith is the player that has the least amount of information out there related to scouting. What I know is this – his body type is a good fit for the Cover 2 and both of the Cowboys’ expected starting outside linebackers, Bruce Carter and Justin Durant, are in contract years. He’ll get a chance to prove he’s worth a roster spot.
